A secret in the heart of Eixample. Meanwhile you need to make massive queues to enter to places like Orient Express or Sips, this gem shines as the anti crowds. First of all, when you pass there is a velvet cord, which could give the impression that they are full or giving a private event. Not at all. We asked and they had a spot for us.
The Bar
Is worth mentioning that the bar is also a gastrobar, which means they serve you food for dinner. In our case, we just went for cocktails, and it has the perfect ambiance for that. Low lights, intimate music, and excellent service. Another great thing is that, even though they could put a few more tables, they don’t care about it. There is enough space to enjoy your cocktail without being uncomfortable. Not gonna lie, is the perfect pace for a late drink in your first date.
The Menu
Since I did not have any food, I’m just going to focus on the cocktail menu, but be aware that, apart from the classic menu, you have two tasting menu options (82€ and 135€), courtesy of chef Juanan Vizcaíno, being the top rated restaurant in Spain by The Fork. No joke.
Now, talking about cocktails, you have some new versions of classic ones like a White Truffle Pisco Sour or a Beetroot Negroni, and then you have some ‘themed’ cocktails from different countries as India, Thailand or Mexico, my choice. You also have the classic ones of course but let’s be honest, we came here to play isn’t it?
I went with ‘El Colima’, a Tequila based cocktail with mango puree, dragonfruit juice and pineapple and chili, served with cryogenized whipped cream. Amazing. Meanwhile they make the cocktail, the waiter comes to explain to you how are they going to do it and the presentation is great.
Also, they have a ‘Prohibition" cocktail’, a secret drink hidden in the menu that you can just find that exists with a UV light.
I cannot say more than just great things about the menu.
Service
Just wow. I gotta say that probably is one of the greatest services in Barcelona. Since the moment you enter you know that this place is special, they treat you like if you were basically some kind of king. The recommendations that they offer are great, how they explain to you how they make the cocktails and how they even go with you to the exit once you leave. Perfect experience.
Price
Once again, we must take into account that I’m talking about the cocktails, no mention to the food. And in terms of drinks, I gotta say that is not a lot more expensive than the average cocktail bar of Barcelona. The most expensive cocktail is 17€, but there is a large variety of cocktails ranging from 11€ to 15€. I’d say that quality price is excellent.
Final Rating
Overall The Alchemix was an amazing discovery. We just found it randomly looking for cocktail bars and we even thought it was close for a private event. Further from the truth. If you want to avoid the insane queues in the most popular hot spots in Barcelona like Sips, Orient Express, Paradiso or even Monk, this is a great place to go and enjoy your cocktail.
